Halcali's ACEN setlist/audio/New York gig info!

Details have emerged about Halcali's Chicago ACEN gig and it sounded like it was amazing. Thankfully even those of us who couldn't make it can still experience some of the goodness, as here is a fan made recording of the gig! It's bootleg quality, but certainly good enough. Best of all, they finish the set with a new song!

Halcali at ACEN

Setlist (May 16th):

1. It’s Party Time
2. Marching March
3. Girl! Girl! Girl!
4. Sister Ship
5. Check!! Check!! It!
6. Tip Taps Tip
7. Endless Lovers Rain
8. Giri Giri Surfrider
9. Wakakusa Dance
10. Halcali No Michi

Encore:
11. Twinkle Star
12. New Song: Zig Zag Saturday Night

I'm liking this new tune a lot. It sounds like Halcali doing, and enjoying, exactly what they do best. It's getting stuck in my head already! Come on let's get it released!

As if all this wasn't enough, there is a bit more Halcali news to share- apparently they will be playing a gig in Central Park New York on June 1st at the Japan Festival! Good news if you're in the area! I'm nowhere near it, so I (like all the other fans dotted around the globe) will be turning to whoever can make it for pictures and any other information.

UPDATE:

Setlist for May 17th:

1. It’s Party Time
2. Koi no Bububun
3. Marching March
4. Girl! Girl! Girl!
5. Zig Zag Saturday Night
6. Sister Ship
7. Check!! Check!! It!
8. Tip Taps Tip
9. Endless Lovers Rain
10. Giri Giri Surfrider
11. A One Two
12. Wakakusa Dance
13. Halcali Michi

Encore:
1. Twinkle Star
2. Tandem
3. Continued

Another great set with a varied mix of singles, album tracks and b-sides.

We, here in Brazil, are comemmorating the 100 Years of Immigration of Japan in Brazil. We are having a lot of events, shows, concerts, performances...
I have faith that Halcali will go to Brazil make some shows.
It´ll be perfect.

Sorry my english. I don´t know all times of verbs, and sometimes the idea can be different.

But, I´d like to have Halcali in this commemorations!

Thanks!

Well, after all these successful shows they're playing in America and France, there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to branch out a bit and play in other parts of the world too (I'd love to see them go to England!)

I noticed some stuff in Nagoya last weekend celebrating 100 years of Brazil-Japan immigration, so I think events for this are taking place all over Japan too!

Thanks for the mp3s! I was at both of the Chicago shows, and they were really great.

The 2nd (Saturday) show was slightly different. I have a bad memory, but I know the encore was:

- Twinkle Star
- Tandem
- Continued

After Twinkle Star, the crowd started yelling out for them to perform Tandem, and they were like "okay". It must have been a coincidence or something, because the track seemed to have been cued up already.

Other differences: They played "Zig Zag Saturday Night" in the main set (great song), and there was one other different song performed early on that I can't recall, sorry.

Also, they put a few ad libs in there. During one track, Halca & Yucali were chanting "Chicago pizza! Chicago Pizza! Chicago pizza! Deep dish!" "I want to eat it"

All in all, it was a great show, and made dealing with an endless crowd of emo anime cosplayers and inept acen staff all worth it.

Hey Jariten!
The Saturday show was even better than the first as they played a total of 16 songs vs 12 and the crowd was probably double the size.
(I may have overestimated the audience size for Friday. Probably 100-150 on Friday and 250-300 on Saturday)

The setlist for May 17:
1. It’s Party Time
2. Koi no Bububun
3. Marching March
4. Girl! Girl! Girl!
5. Zig Zag Saturday Night
6. Sister Ship
7. Check!! Check!! It!
8. Tip Taps Tip
9. Endless Lovers Rain
10. Giri Giri Surfrider
11. A One Two
12. Wakakusa Dance
13. Halcali Michi

Encore:
1. Twinkle Star
2. Tandem
3. Continue

Sorry Jariten but I have a favor to ask: could you anonymize my involvement as the source of the May 16 bootleg? In principle I have no problems with having uploaded audio for the May 16 show. I am a devoted fan of Halcali who aside from a few singles has purchased their entire discography (including the DVD).
I flew from a distance to attend the Chicago show and danced/jumped/waved/cheered her/his heart out to show appreciation for their sublime performance. I wish all fans of Halcali could have been there to experience it which is why I uploaded the audio. I don't seek to profit from the audio clip and I doubt any 3rd party would be able to given its mediocre sound quality. However, a part of me feels bad about the deed. It was a clandestine move without Sony's permission. My goal is to promote Halcali as best I can but what I did undermines Sony's control of Halcali's songs whom they have legal rights to. I established a reasonable rapport with Halcali +/- management over the weekend so I'm experiencing some guilt from what I did despite having goood intentions at heart. I'm sorry if this is an inconvenience to you but could you please honor my request.

Thank you Jariten in advance,
a fan hoping the best for Halcali

Just got back from the show. I was the guy in the black short sleeve button-up at the first show and the black sparkly ed hardy shirt at the second concert (and I'm pretty sure the only one holding a copy of bacon in the entire autograph line).

Just purchased my tickets to the new York show. See ya there!

>WARNING< I worked at both Halcali concerts at A-cen as staff, and I just want to warn you that the management and Halcali's recrod label told Acen to warn everyone going to see them that ALL RECORDING devices were PROHIBITED and anyone who video tapes and records any of the concert will be prosecuted(sued) by the record label! SO just as a warning to you who owns the Halcali blog... if I were you I would at least take off that zip zap zip song seeing as it is not a released song or hide the name of the person who uploaded the mp3. Or you may just find yourself getting a bad email from some suits! Take my word for it, Halcali's management was dead serious when they told us this.

btw, if you type "halcali" into google, this blog pops up in the top 10 list of halcali sites. This site is not exactly hidden, so take that as a warning.

Fine.

But if Halcali's lawyers wanted to come after this blog for posting LINKS to bootleg audio recordings of unreleased songs they're already well over one year too late.

Bur since you seem to have posted that with good intentions I added a little disclaimer onto the bottom.

I also attended the 2 concerts- they were amazing!! I can't stress that enough. There were some hardcore HALCALI fans there, too. Many flew in from afar.
HALCALI had the crowd dancing constantly, and were so high energy.
I'll have a full report on my LiveJournal soon if anyone is curious.
And thank you so much to jariten for this great blog, which is a big source of my HALCALI news.

This recording SHOULD be removed.

If the people responsible for this are actual fans ( which no doubt ARE fans)- would like halcali to actually survive in this industry, these people wouldn't even think about recording the live event for your own personal gain ; and most importantly the mp3 recording contains unreleased material !!

How do you think Halcali would feel if they found out about this ? Remember : This is their first time visiting the USA and by doing this , what impression do you think they'll get ? Good job !!!

A total shame to all the people responsible!!!!!!!!!

WHAT? - this doesn't justify the fact you are STILL supporting unsolicited, un-released material.

I have no idea what you mean by this. No money is changing hands (something I would be firmly against)

You failed to explain exactly how posting a rough, bootleg recording of an unreleased song is harming Halcali in any way. Can you see how the reverse could be true, and that this rough version will serve to increase buzz and expectation for the bands future releases?

I'm willing to lend you an ear, but you need to elucidate your position better (and perhaps calm down a bit).

My other comment was a reference to the fact that posting a link to a download of a bootlegged version of an unreleased song is something I first did well over a year ago.

LMAO, if the label "told Acen" to watch for recording devices, why is it our problem? It sounds to me like YOU and the rest of the staff screwed up, not the person recording or this site. I was there, and the ACEN staff, who were apparently told sternly that NO recording devices would be allowed, did little to no screening of concert goers for that. You all seemed 100% focused on finding cameras.

Also, after the concert began, anyone, even without a badge or ticket, could just walk right in the side doors and enjoy the concert. Now that's some tight security >.>

Whew.

That was an absolutely amazing weekend. I'm sure most people covered what I would have said already. If people want to read another view of it, I posted a play by play on my lj at http://nono-forever.livejournal.com/36011.html

Plus here are a few pics. Some of them aren't crystal clear, but they are fun none the less.

And for those who wanted to see the shirts I took pics of them. First pic is all three styles side by side. Second pic is of the limited edition shirt that you got by mailing in the card from Cyborg. It is apparently the same as the French shirt.

^ heh, while I'm equally an enthusiastic fan of the duo as Alice, unfortunately being a 40yo geezer does have its downsides.

I got to see Dreams Come True play the Fillmore in 2002 -- standing not 10' from Miwa for over an hour -- so I know how fun it is to see your favorite groups when they come over here.

Halcali's playing at the Japanese school in France looks interesting, but I'm going to be way too busy next month to get out of the country :(

As someone who had to work as part of the ACEN staff it is totally not cool someone took and put up video of this as we were under terms set by Halcali's entourage about no photography or video coverage by us or the audience.

You might not understand but if Halcali's sponsor for our convention catches wind that these terms were broken it would be hard for them to trust any of us here in America in negotiating any other future appearances with us or other places.

So not cool dude.

Wow. Dude, I don't see how that statement is supposed to somehow justify the act knowing recording their setlist and audio for it should not have been done to start. By logic, it's like you're expecting them to kiss your ass as a "great service" for actually getting away with the recording? What makes you think it's still right to put it up? Nothing personal but saying what you said like that kinda makes you look like an ass and a hypocritical fan who on one hand claims to support them yet with the other shoots them in the back.

Besides saying that the security team should have one by one searched every participant airport security style for anything that could possibly record any portion of the performance kinda stupid don't you think? You may as well go one step further saying they can't allow us to remember it either recorded in our memories. Like a night of heavy drinking...

Don't fall into the "my internet anonymity gives me the privilege to think my personal opinion that much righter", here. You're not doing yourself a great service. As such, I think you should lose the link to "Halcali at ACEN". If Halca and Yucali asked you themselves not to post their recording... would you? As someone said earlier, google doesn't list you too far under... maybe they'll see your site one day and you shouldn't think due respect isn't due to them personally just because you think they can't slap your wrists you're behind a blog and a computer dude.

How is it not "respecting them"?
