New single Endless Night is looking potentially awesome

What I'm really looking for the most from this new single Endless Night (due out on the 27th) is a reason to get excited about Halcali again. What with little more than two covers to their name released in the whole of 2009, I must admit found my interest in them waning somewhat. So I hope this new one will be something special.

Thankfully, all signs are currently pointing to yes. The brief snippet of the song posted by Sony sounds pretty good, it will feature Bose from Schadaraparr, and was produced by Ram Rider, while the flip has (according to Sony) a "catchy piano riff" and was produced by Verbal.

All those guys have come up with the goods for them in the past, and with the huge success of the Boogie Back downloads behind them, here's hoping this will kick off a great 2010 for Halcali.

UPDATE
Stewart gave us a link to listen to Endless Night right here! Thoughts? This is sounding pretty good after a couple of listens. Hurry up and check it out before its taken down.

Or.... nobody hears the song due to minimal promo work from Sony and they remain largely unknown. Hopefully this won't be the case, but I have yet to be impressed by how Sony market these guys.

Sounds like Tip Taps Tip but with a bit more of a beat and a male voice added.

I must admit I had my doubts at first listen.

But then it hit the rap section. They KILLED it. I'm actually very impressed by their vocals on that section. Yucali, and especially Halca, have improved at their flow SO MUCH. Honestly the rest of the song is whatever to me, but now when I listen to it and know those rap sections are coming up I feel my heart race. And that is a good feeling to have on a song.

Sony is obviously not gonna give this song the promotion it deserves. Urgh. What a waste. HALCALI needs to switch labels again. Now.

I can imagine myself in my long drive home alone at night listening to this song. I guess that's the mood that they were going for.

Jesus Christ. That video's up there with Giri Giri and Twinkle Star. And there were definitely some echoes of Strawberry Chips in there, too.

If this single isn't a success, I'm going to pay Sony a little visit of my own. Show them who's boss. They've done everything right so far. PLEASE, just promote this!

It's a nice track but I've been overloaded with Yasutaka Nakata tracks for the past two years. This is pretty much in the same vein but it's a little bland...despite all the high quality that it has been blessed with.

Not sure it's something I'll be buying though. Maybe it'll grow on me.

You know, Sony wrote that the song was something like a "late night driving tune" somewhere, so it's really great that someone up there already felt it.

YES!

Not the whole song, though.

if it wasn't for our two lovely girls i guess i wouldn't have listened to the full 1:45 minutes.
you guys are getting all lost in the hype.
seriously man, this song is...not good.
thinking about it...like, pisudori wasn't an 'ideal' b-side but i'd still prefer that over the new single as a whole.
yeah anyways..despite my personal disappointment regarding endless night i'd still want halcali to say YES! to me. anytime.

B-side is better than the A?

Being an ex-eikaiwa teacher, I can't help commenting on the intonation on "So many boys want me to say yes". . . . they try for the gangsta rap sound but fail to shift the "to" to "tah".

One of Epic's female staff was just on Fuji TV, parading herself on a catwalk wearing a swimsuit and carrying a poster of HalCali to promote Endless Night. Sophisticated marketing, guys.

Not to mention the song sounds like Bennie K and the video looks like Bennie K meets Yuki. Ugh.

So far, no sight in the top 30 of the daily singles chart... GREAT JOB, SONY! I figured by now, there would at least be a video or two of the girls performing it or at least doing the most miniscule promotion like with Konya Wa Boogie Back. I give up. If it weren't for their upcoming single with Tokyo No.1 Soul Set, I'd have thought the girls were in real danger by now of being dropped. I hope they'll find a way to persist.

No mention of the new album, Tokyo Groove? Well, if you can call it an album. Bit of a limp rag really... Almost nothing of any substance on there at all. A bunch of exceptionally dull new tracks and a collection of their mostly lacklustre covers. Not surprising you can't find the energy to update this blog!

Jariten (and all Halcali fans) I hope all is well with you! I'm truly surprised that there haven't been any updates for a while - I thought a new double-album would merit... SOMETHING.

Actually, I wrote a review of Tokyo Groove right after it came out, but I didn't publish it. That was mostly due to it being a fairly honest, but not very critically minded piece that was motivated mostly by massive disappointment and even a bit of anger if I'm to be honest.
I do want to publish it though, so I think I'll rewrite it later tonight.

In short, I think the album is a huge smack in the face to anyone who calls themselves a Halcali fan.
