Twinkle Star on Music Station

Well, they weren't on first. As the rest of the nights line-up were getting a few minutes airtime each to talk about how their dress nearly fell off due to the weight of their mike (Koda Kumi) or about how...well the story was so boring I forgot (Dreams Come True), things were looking good for Halcali to finally get an elbow in themselves. After sitting through an hour of songs and chatter from Hyde, that guy from Kinki Kids and some other stuff that frankly just went in one ear and out the other, what happened when Halcali finally got their chance to talk?

Nothing. They got snubbed. Again. What pleasure the producer derives from giving 10 minutes to Dreams Come True and 0 to Halcali I don't know, but things turned out well in the end. Halcali got their revenge in the best way possible- by taking the competition and teaching all those performers with twice their age and experience a few things about how you are really supposed to deliver a pop song. In a night dogged with the same old predictable artists doing the same old predictable turns, Halcali brought the only real spark and energy to the night with Twinkle Star and reminded you that yes, guys, pop music is supposed to be fun and imaginative and witty and exciting and above all doesn't Twinkle Star out and out prove just how ecstatically great an ecstatically great POP song can be?

Hopefully a few other people watching the show tonight agreed with me.

Wow! That was a great performance!
They sounded great, very strong.
They even looked really comfortable and confident. I hope they just keep getting better at this TV performance stuff, even if they are never spoken to. ¬_¬

I kind of do understand that more people want to hear chit-chat with the likes of Koda Kumi or Hyde than with HALCALI, simply because the other artists are more well known. Bigger names, bigger ratings, bigger pay cheques.

What I don't get though, is how they become popular in the first place, especially if nobody wants to talk to lesser-known performers.

Wow, that was an amazing performance, tho I'm not sure what Yukari was doing at the start with her mouth open like that, late night maybe?

The instramental break before the last 3rd of the track was very badly edited out, I wonder if was cut during the performance, it did seem to be quite a jump.

Nice to see the seemingly random use of english words thrown into the lyrcis too.

I wonder if Either of the girls can speak English...

Actually, incase Ive made myself look foolish, Am I right in thinking that Haruka allways stands to the left and Yukari to the right?

What I don't understand is, if Halcali aren't famous or wonderful or beautiful or interesting or whatever enough for Music Station to devote a couple of minutes of chat to, why have them on at all? While of course i'm happy they got on, when everyone else got a chance to say something then its "oh and heres Halcali" it does seem like they've been relegated to a 'filler' status a little bit. It's annoying. It's not like they're MS newbies either.

No, that didn't really work did it? It was live, so they flubbed it a little bit, but without cues it was obviously going to be difficult.

Probably not above the regualar school kid level (i.e not much). I think this would have come up in an interview by now if they could.

This came up a few months ago too. It looks like they do. Wonder who decided that and why?

Maybe I'm stupid in saying they have bad management. I mean music station is the only thing they ever get on. Same goes with Rip Slyme. But I dunno if that's the point. I feel the Music Station is more of a conservative pop show, and possibly Tamori & Mariko have more material in dealing with starts like Hyde, Koda Kumi etc.

Though I'll pull out Rip Slyme, first single in god knows how long. I was hoping for a great talk about how Fumiya's not there (I didn't know the reason then). But they were put last without a talk as well. The only reason they got middle talk spot with thir Battle Funkastic was because of Hotei. And it wasn't like their singles were selling beans.

Maybe there's hope for Halcali tours?

Okay that performance was pretty amazing. They looked really happy this time. And not nearly as nervous as they did when singing Tip Taps Tip. Good for them! I really wish they had an interview section, but I kinda expected that they wouldn't. Oh well.

I read somewhere once (i can't remember where) that neither of them can really speak english. They actually mess around guessing what words they are singing and then go ask Rip Slyme what the words mean. Hah.

What is the reason? Is it some illness?

Yeah he's a pretty sickly guy. He got hospitalised and had to stick to it. He had to miss out lives & concerts. I didn't know at that time so when some weird skinny guy was scratching for Hot Chocolate of MS I totally freaked out.

I totally miss him so hard (in a totally sane and non dangerous way.)

And as a random side note, the guy who replaced him for Rip Slyme was DJ Soma who was his childhood friend (I somehow imagine Fumiya's home place to be some sort of star training centre popping out the SMAP guy and all too.)

i just watched the MS, and i didn't realize that they were up against such stiff competition during the show. i mean there were only super big artists on except maybe tomomi kahala (and she used to be big), so it's really not that surprising that they didn't get a talk section again. plus most of the other artists had singles in the top 10 unlike halcali so they had to direct the attention to where the cds were being sold. if halcali can break into the top ten i'm sure they'll get time to talk a bit. if they had been on MS next week (where the lineup is a lot weaker) then i bet they woulda been able to talk.

i thought they coulda used some backup dancers for the perf (it seemed kinda empty to me) but it was energetic for sure.

You're right about the big names they were up against. When they did the top 10 rundown, Halcali were the only band on the show without a single in it. Twinkle Star is still nowhere to be found on Oricon...
